Compress to KB accepts PNG, JPEG, and WebP, from 10 KB through 5000 KB. 1 MB is 1000 in that field. 2 MB is 2000. It is best-effort: a file that is already under the cap can still be re-encoded, so compare the download size before you replace a sharp original.
Do not use the 100 KB habit here. That budget is for tight attachments and is written up in 100 / 200 / 500 KB caps. HEIC from a phone must become a JPG first. This page does not decode HEIC.
Steps
- If the original is HEIC, convert it to JPG first.
- Open Compress to KB and type 1000 for about 1 MB, or 2000 for about 2 MB.
- Download and check the file size on disk, not only the preview.
- If text or a face went soft, raise the target. You cannot type more than 5000.
FAQ
Is 1 MB the same as 1000 KB or 1024 KB?
Type 1000. Portals that say 1 MB almost always accept a file around that size. If the form counts kibibytes and rejects you, try 900.
Does this upload the photo?
No. JPEG quality search runs in the tab.
Will 1000 KB keep a transparent background?
No. The result is a JPEG. Transparency is gone.
