How to self-prove 0-byte upload

You do not have to trust a slogan. Reproduce it in DevTools:

  1. Open Verify local (or any tool). Press F12 → Network. Enable “Disable cache”.
  2. Confirm that before you pick a file, no large model/WASM download for ormbg or libheif has started (page CSS/JS only).
  3. Choose a photo from disk. Processing runs in the tab (canvas / ONNX / WASM).
  4. Watch Network: you may see site assets and, after file pick, model or decoder downloads from allowed hosts (e.g. Cloudflare R2 / Hugging Face for ormbg, or self-hosted libheif). You should not see a multipart POST of your image to LocalPix.
  5. Download uses a local blob: URL — the result stays on your device.

FAQ

Does LocalPix upload my photos?

No. Processing runs in your browser. Your image bytes are not uploaded to LocalPix servers for remove-background, HEIC/WebP/AVIF convert, or compress tools.

How do I self-prove 0-byte upload?

Use DevTools Network as in How to self-prove 0-byte upload above, or follow the step-by-step verify-local page. Model/WASM loads only after you pick a file; download stays local via blob URLs.

What model removes the background?

Default: ormbg (Apache-2.0). Downloaded on demand after you choose an image. RMBG is not used. BiRefNet/BEN2 are not offered in this MVP. See Licenses.

Will HEIC / WebP / AVIF conversion work on every device?

HEIC uses libheif-js WASM on demand (LGPL-3.0; see /licenses/). WebP and AVIF use the browser decoder when available — if decode fails you get a clear error. HEIC · WebP · AVIF. Scene notes: iPhone HEIC · WebP/AVIF to JPG.

Can I hit a 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB cap?

Compress to KB searches JPEG quality locally for the target you type. It is best-effort — raise the number if text goes soft. Guide: attachment caps. PNG screenshots: compress PNG for email.

Does an iPhone HEIC stay on the device?

Yes. HEIC to JPG decodes with libheif-js WASM after you choose the file. Check orientation in the preview before you attach the JPG. Walkthrough: iPhone HEIC to JPG.
