HEIC, then a cutout, then a JPG

Three tools, one order. Remove background and Compress cannot read HEIC. Compress also turns a transparent PNG into a JPEG and throws away the alpha. Do the steps in this order or you redo them.

1. HEIC to JPG if the camera roll file is HEIC. 2. Remove background on that JPG if you need a transparent subject. Download the PNG and stop here when the destination accepts PNG. 3. Composite any required color yourself. 4. Only then Compress to KB if something named a size.

Running compress on the cutout PNG is the usual mistake: the listing or the avatar loses its transparency and you blame the cutout. A logo that must stay transparent should never see step 4. Quotas apply only to background removal (one 640 px try without an account, 3 full-size a day when signed in).

Steps

  1. Convert HEIC to JPG. Skip this if you already have JPEG, PNG, or WebP.
  2. Remove the background only if you need transparency. Download the PNG.
  3. If the destination wants a flat color, composite it locally. This site does not add white.
  4. Compress the flattened image only when a KB or MB cap applies.

FAQ

Can I drop the HEIC straight on Remove background?

No. That page does not decode HEIC. Convert to JPG first.

I compressed the PNG and the background came back.

Compress writes a JPEG. Alpha is discarded, so the viewer shows a flat backdrop. Start again from the PNG if you still have it.

Which step needs an account?

Only background removal has a free-try limit. Convert and compress do not.
