Cut out a product photo on a transparent background

Listing photos are easier to reuse when the subject sits on transparency instead of a tablecloth. Run ormbg locally, keep the PNG, and do not upload the original to LocalPix.

A simple ecommerce still — one object, decent light, not a lifestyle scene — is the case Remove background is for. The model is ormbg (Apache-2.0), on device, WebGPU when the browser has an adapter and CPU/WASM otherwise. Output is a transparent PNG. RMBG is not used. See when WASM runs if the cutout is slow.

A short workflow

  1. Shoot or export a still as JPEG, PNG, or WebP. HEIC from a phone: HEIC to JPG first.
  2. Open Remove background. Optional: self-prove 0-byte upload or follow Verify local. Weights download only after you run (~42 MB, then cached).
  3. Download nobg.png. Zoom the edges: straps, glass, and hair are where ormbg most often leaves a fringe. Reshoot or crop rather than stacking another online cutout on top.
  4. Keep the PNG for a storefront that accepts transparency. If the marketplace wants pure white, composite locally — the tool does not add a white plate for you.
  5. Need the file under a portal cap after it is flattened? Compress to KB. That step makes a JPEG and drops alpha.

What this is not

FAQ

Does the product photo leave the device?

No. Inference stays in the tab. Network may show the ormbg download after you run; it should not show your image posted to LocalPix. Verify local.

Which model?

ormbg only (Apache-2.0). RMBG, BiRefNet, and BEN2 are not offered. Licenses.

The listing turned the background white.

You exported or recompressed to JPEG. Transparency only survives in the PNG you downloaded.
