This is the “I cannot open the attachment” case, not the “shrink it for a form” case. HEIC to JPG loads libheif-js (LGPL-3.0, about 1.4 MB) only after you pick the file. Default JPEG quality is 92. Check the preview: some HEIC files store rotation beside the pixels, so a sideways JPG is a metadata issue, not a Windows bug.
You do not need an account. Convert and compress are not part of the background-removal quota. If the recipient then names a size, run the JPG through Compress to KB. Caps of 100, 200, and 500 KB are already covered in attachment caps. A portal that says about 1 MB is a separate target.
Steps
- Save the HEIC from Mail, iCloud, or AirDrop onto the Windows machine. Do not email it to a conversion website.
- Open HEIC to JPG in Chrome or Edge. Choose the file. libheif downloads after that choice, not before.
- Look at the preview. If it is sideways, rotate it locally before you send the JPG on.
- Download the JPG. If a later step needs a KB cap, use Compress to KB on that JPG.
FAQ
Does the HEIC get uploaded so Windows can read it?
No. libheif runs in the tab. Network may show the WASM under /assets/libheif/. It should not show your photo posted to LocalPix. Verify local.
Can I turn the HEIC into a PNG or WebP here?
No. This converter writes a JPEG. There is no JPG to WebP or AVIF encoder on this site.
The cutout tool will not take the HEIC.
Remove background and Compress do not decode HEIC. Convert to JPG first, then open the JPG. Order of steps.
